USERTECH/Canterbury has a long tradition of applying technology to the process
of adult learning. Since the early 1980’s and beyond, we
have designed, developed, delivered and supported:
CBT – Presenting
the fullest possible range of interactive
self-study (asynchronous) e-Learning content
through local hard drive, CD/ROM, high-speed
Local and Wide Area Networks, or “thick” client
Internet channels.
WBT – Offering
the fastest and widest distribution of interactive self-study (asynchronous)
e-Learning content, using standard Web browsers and Internet, Intranet,
and Extranet transport facilities.
EPSS – a
collection of electronic job-related support
mechanisms, including online Help and Coaching
facilities, live (synchronous) Customer
Service channels, and performance analysis
and evaluation tools.
Video – Asynchronous
animated or live presentation full-screen
media delivered in VHS or Betamax tape
cassette format, or through sophisticated
video conferencing or closed-circuit television
facilities.
Streaming
Media – Digital
audio and video presentations, delivered
across Internet, Intranet, and Extranet
transport facilities; typically used in
conjunction with other live or on-demand
content presentation components.
Distance
Learning – Live
or on-demand content delivered through
private networks or the Internet; typically
refers to virtual classroom training – however,
almost all e-Learning presentations are
experienced at a geographic or chronological
distance.
Online Reference – the
presentation of system, mechanical or process
documentation on a display mechanism; usually
features a network of hypertext linkage,
and may include animation or streaming
media.
It’s important to recognize, however, that e-Learning is not
an end in itself. It is a collection of presentation and support platforms,
which can compliment traditional methods to form a blended learning
experience.
